While we automatically collect information about your computer and internet request, we do not collect any personal information about you when you visit our site unless you choose to provide the information. We will not sell, rent, loan or share your nonpublic personal information to anyone.
This policy applies to only the PortalWisconsin.org web site. Other web sites that are linked to PortalWisconsin.org have different and separate privacy policies.
Protecting the privacy of our Web site visitors is very important to PortalWisconsin.org. Because we gather certain types of information about our users, we want to make sure you are informed of the ways in which we may and may not use the information you transmit to us when you visit PortalWisconsin.org.
(1) Information that is collected automatically
- The Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer you use to access our Web site. The IP address is a number that uniquely identifies your computer on the Internet. Without this number, our servers would not know where to send back the information you are requesting.
- The date and time you "hit" each page on our site.
- The page you are requesting.
- The Web browser and computer operating system you are using to access our site.
- The address of the site or page you came from to our site.
These data do not contain any personally identifiable information and will be used for purposes of analyzing Web site traffic and making improvements for visitors to PortalWisconsin.org.
(2) Information you send to us
We will not collect personally identifiable information from you, other than what you supply to us on a voluntary basis. To make use of certain features on PortalWisconsin.org you need to register and to provide some information as part of the registration process. The information you supply helps us offer you more personalized features, tailoring our site to your interests and making it more useful to you.
If you choose to send us e-mail or fill out a Web-based form, that information is stored in an employee's e-mail or in an on-line database. We use that information to respond to your request or to provide interaction on our Web site. We do not use any of the information you send us for commercial marketing purposes. However, because portalwiscsonsin.org is associated with a state institution, we are subject to Wisconsin Open Records Law. We may be obligated to make our records available if an appropriate open records request is submitted.
Supplying such information is entirely voluntary. PortalWisconsin.org will not knowingly accept personally identifiable information from visitors under the age of 18 who have not obtained permission from their parents or guardians.
The areas of the site in which we collect such information, the information collected and the purpose for collecting that information are described below:
Subscription to electronic newsletters
PortalWisconsin.org offers free electronic newsletters to users. These newsletters include highlights of the arts, cultural, humanities and historical richness of Wisconsin and other information of interest to PortalWisconsin.org users and supporters. To subscribe, you must provide your e-mail address. To remove yourself from the mailing list, follow the instructions at the bottom of any newsletter.
PortalWisconsin.org occasionally conducts surveys with the option of participating through PortalWisconsin.org. Apart from preference information you provide, survey responses are not correlated to any personally identifying information and are used in aggregate form to help us tailor PortalWisconsin.org's online services.
To send us e-mail through the feedback PortalWisconsin.org page, you must enter a name and e-mail address, and of course, your comments. In addition, you have the option of entering a city and state. This information is used to respond to your comments. It is also used in aggregate form for statistical purposes.
Online purchases and security
To help make our sites more responsive to the needs of our visitors, we invoke a standard feature found in browser software, called a "cookie," to assign each visitor a unique, random number, a sort of anonymous user ID that resides on your computer. The cookie doesn't actually identify the visitor, just the computer that a visitor uses to access our site. Unless you voluntarily identify yourself (through registration, for example), we won't know who you are, even if we assign a cookie to your computer. A cookie can't read data stored on your computer.
(3) Policies for Children
We comply with the Federal Trade Commission 1998 Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) (http://www.ftc.gov/ogc/coppa1.htm) The children's section of PortalWisconsin.org is for parents, caregivers and children. It is a place where adults and children can surf together that is fun, safe and commercial-free.
PortalWisconsin.org will not knowingly accept personally identifiable information from visitors under the age of 18 who have not obtained permission from their parents or guardians. If your child sends us an e-mail with a question or comment, or enters a contest, we will respond using his or her e-mail address and will not store it for future communications.
The children's section of the Web site makes links only to other non-commercial, educational sites directly related to PortalWisconsin.org's projects and partners. Policies on these sites may vary from those of PortalWisconsin.org and they are not within the control of PortalWisconsin.org.
PortalWisconsin.org cannot accept any responsibility nor any liability for information or policies contained on these sites.
