PortalWisconsin.org turns two!

The Thai Pavilion at Madison's Olbrich Botanical Gardens is one of the places you can 'visit' through a virtual tour on Portalwisconsin.org.This month marks the second anniversary of PortalWisconsin.org's launch. We debuted on Jan. 14, 2002. Since that time, our Web traffic has grown to include more than 30,000 "culture vultures" each month—like you—who come here to connect with Wisconsin's arts, humanities and history. Some other facts about the site:

  • Our online gallery now includes more than 100 Wisconsin contemporary artists working in a variety of media, from painting and photography to ceramics and fine art furniture. We continue to accept applications from other Wisconsin artists who would like to become part of this juried, online space.
  • In the fall of 2002, we added our popular "opportunities" area, where you can find audition notices, calls for artists, job postings and the like.
  • We now feature more than forty Quicktime "virtual tours" of fun and educational places, including all of the Wisconsin Historical Society historic sites, a number of quirky "outsider art" sculpture parks, and Manitowoc's recently expanded Wisconsin Maritime Museum.
  • Teachers can easily search hundreds of Web-based curriculum resources in our special area for educators.
