Pericles
An actor pulls up a chair and begins a story: Pericles. It’s a big story with over fifty characters, spanning five countries and fifteen years. In our production, seven actors tell the story of shipwrecks and reunions on a bare stage with only a few props on hand to help them. They play nuns and knights, sailors and prostitutes, fishermen and goddesses, an innocent virgin and an incestuous king. Usually presented as a heavily-costumed epic romance, this production focuses on the smaller, more powerful drama at the center of it, about a shattered family trying to survive in a treacherous world.
