Direct Action! Non-violent Resistance in History and Today's Headlines
Mass sit-ins in Cairo, strikes in Greece, the occupation of Wall Street ... these events follow centuries of similar direct action by ordinary citizens. This course uses lectures, readings, movies, and group discussion to explore: The origins and "Golden Ages" of direct action; why and how non-violent direct action works; civil resistance, boycotts, and strikes--the do's and don'ts; and historic and current examples from around the globe. Meets Wednesday evenings, 7:00 p.m.-8:45 p.m.
