Artist statement
Painting is my passion. Working in transparent watercolor is personal, magical, humbling, soothing, exciting and challenging all mixed together.
I don't have to look far for ideas--they jump out at me. As I take photographs, I see a finished painting with fascinating contrasts of light, shadow and vibrant colors.
I've always been a bit of a nonconformist and risk taker--thinking outside the box and trying to push the boundaries even from there. I think many of my compositions show that side of my personality.
I enjoy the process of creating, sometimes more than the finished product. I become invested and consequently feel a lot more satisfaction with a painting when I've had to struggle to solve a problem, probably one that I created in the first place!
