Green Bay artist Carol Emmons is known for her installation work. In October 2000, she dramatically altered the look of the Wisconsin Academy Gallery with a large-scale, site-specific installation. Her Academy exhibition offered a fortuitous juxtaposition of the building's original use as a medical clinic with her ongoing interest in issues of loneliness and the search for romance. Emmons combined found texts such as personal ads, horoscopes, romance novels and the like with built construction in the gallery to create an environment that conflated the anatomical heart with romantic cliche.
Emmons is a professor of art at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. She has shown her work at the Chicago Cultural Center as well as internationally. Emmons has been honored with several fellowships and grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board.
