I am a documentary photographer concerned with the issues of our time, the connections and relationships between people and cultures, and themes of personal importance. I work on extended projects in a variety of settings and hopefully produce images that speak for and about the subject matter I choose in a meaningful, insightful and honest way.
Paul Calhoun's photographs have been exhibited and published in New York, Chicago, Europe and the Far East as well as supported through individual and project grants by a number of foundations including the National Endowment for the Humanities, the New York State Council on the Arts, the Wisconsin Humanities Council, and the Mary Knoll Suitcase Fund for the Arts.
Currently Calhoun is working on a collaborative project in the Republic of Georgia with Georgian photographer and Soros Fellow Gia Chkhatarashvili. Photographs from that project will be displayed at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in March 2007, and future exhibitions are being planned in Moscow and Toronto, Canada.
