I focus on sea life, freshwater fish, nature and music. Scuba diving, snorkeling and fiddling are influencial in my choice of subject matter. By capturing the gorgeous colors and intricate patterns occurring in nature, especially my Ocean Dudes, I hope to positively influence mankind's awareness of our fragile ecosystem through my art.
I love batiking, which is a wax-resist process of painting alternate layers of dye and melted wax onto silk fabric. Vibrant colors harmoniously blend on silk, creating cheerful, eye-catching designs. Detailed foregrounds are uniquely enhanced by the crackled backgrounds of my batiks. This effect produces the look of sunrays flowing through water, which is exceptionally complementary to my underwater pieces. I create series, matching sets and one-of-a-kind originals that allow art enthusiasts to build distinctive collections.
Sue Duda's bachelor's degree in art, from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, initiated her career in art. After 22 years as a studio potter, a strong current took her down a new stream, which led to the ocean. Influenced by scuba diving and snorkeling, she couldn't resist capturing the colorful underwater world on paper. Using colored pencils, Sue drew colorful and unique fish, and called her business "Ocean Dudes by Duda." After a batik class, Duda discovered the satisfaction of painting brilliantly colored dyes layered with hot wax on silk. She was thrilled to find a process that gave her drawings pizzazz. Batiking fish and other sea life has become a means for Sue Duda to creatively share her love for color and the ocean. The ocean offers irresistible colors, intricate patterns and endless varieties. Sue's artwork allows her to bring the splendors of the underwater world to the surface, creating cheerful art for others to enjoy. As a Wisconsin artist, Duda also creates freshwater fish, nature and music batiks as well.
