Women and Water: Woven Portraits from Around the World Exhibition
Women and Water: Woven Portraits from Around the World is a powerful exhibition by Wisconsin artist Mary Burns, featuring 29 handwoven Jacquard portraits of women from 20 countries across the globe who are leaders in water advocacy, science, and stewardship. From the Arctic to the Great Lakes, the African Great Lakes to Sri Lanka, Burns’ intricately woven works celebrate the strength, wisdom, and dedication of women working to protect Earth’s most vital resource. Guest curated by Wisconsin artist Suzanne Rose, this exhibition connects global stories to the Door Peninsula’s own deep relationship with water—inviting viewers to reflect on our shared responsibility to honor and safeguard the waters that sustain life.
