Artist statement
I love Wisconsin and its rural landscape. Snow or sunshine, it seems wherever I look, I see a painting: patterns of a freshly plowed farm field, tassling corn, popcorn clouds in a cerulean sky. Color and pattern are important to me. Using bold brushwork and lots of luscious oil paint, I want to impart to the viewer the beauty and energy I feel as I experience nature and the landscape. "Let the paint talk," I often say as I apply it with a palette knife like frosting on a cake. Painting is fun for me and I think viewers feel the sense of joy and optimism I get as I paint.
