Artist statement
Simple, whimsical and colorful describe my watercolor paintings. I love to paint things found in nature, but also am inspired by day to day objects and my spirituality. Many of my pieces are just images in my mind. I tear the watercolor paper to the size that I want and then watch as the image comes through on the paper as the paint flows with each brush stroke. I like to work loosely because sometimes the flow of the paint can accomplish things that are wonderfully surprising.
In framing my work I float the piece on the mat board so that the deckle edge shows. I use acid free mats in all my work. The Giclee Prints are done on cotton paper using archival inks so they won't fade. I also use conservation glass in my framed work.
Biography
I grew up on a farm in Green County, Wis., and have always had a love of art. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Interior Design. I worked in commercial design/space planning for about 15 years when I decided it was time to work on my painting. I had been painting greeting cards for family and friends and taking some painting classes for about ten years and thought it was time to see how these images would looked framed. The response was great! Since, I have been involved in local art shows and also sell my work at Hann's Christmas Farm just west of Oregon, Wis., during the Christmas season. I have also created a website (debrakrebs.com) that has my show schedule and several of my originals, giclée prints and greeting cards. I am a member of Madison Art Guild and 14 South Artists.
