Artist statement
My current work deals with the stories I've read from childhood. Fragments of words forming into picture in my head. I culled these narratives, and weave them into something new. I incorporate images that reference different cultures and their stories. The result is a diverse tapestry of intricate narratives that neither end nor start; always in flux as if the artist's mind is in a state of delirium. It is with this idea that fueled this current body of work.
Biography
Aries Tjhin was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 1982. He moved to California with his mom and sister, and there he completed his BA in painting and printmaking at the University of California in Santa Cruz in 2004. In 2008, Aries completed his MFA in printmaking at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He is currently living in Milwaukee, making art and working as a barista.
