Artist statement
Romantics thought of landscapes as containers of the unknown. Through travel, I gain an understanding of the world around me, and to crystallize my experiences I am driven to create. I cut up the land and lay out the spaces I encounter. I aim to simplify the details, but complicate spaces through patterns. I use origami paper for its highly ordered patterns which create muddled instances of simultaneous contrast. These complex moments on the simply cut spaces are reflective of my experience in the world of the unknown.
Biography
AC Klein earned a BFA in Painting from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2007. She creates paintings, mixed media collage and sculptures. AC Klein has had her work exhibited nationally, and has been published several times. In 2010 she started a business called ACKlein Baby Photography, which is thriving. She lives and works in Milwaukee, Wis.
