Artist statement
I have spent a lifetime in art, photography, teaching and writing. Inspiration for my work in photography was derived from the old-time greats such as Roger Fenton, Jacque-Henri Lartigue, Edward Steichen, Alfred Stieglitz, Eugen Atget, Paul Strand, Laura Gilpin, Edward Weston, Imogen Cunningham, Ansel Adams, and Harry Callahan, to name a few. These people helped weld photography to the modern age of art. To translate this vision into the digital age is, frankly, quite a challenge - but I am working on it. Still. Sorry for the name-dropping.
Biography
I have spent a lifetime in art, photography, teaching, and writing. Also an an instigator, thought provoker, and college hockey fan. Some say I am the epitome of a "grumpy old man." (But they're wrong. I'm not an epitome of anything.) I have traveled widely, lived abroad, taught in Holland, Iowa and Wisconin, Written three books, did some painting, short films, designing, and lots of photography. Now that I'm retired, I'm ready to start a new career.
