Artist statement
The majority of my work is plein air painting. My aim is to capture a day or a mood in a landscape. I'd like you to see what I see - the beauty around us - and to feel a sense of urgency to protect it.
Biography
Jan Norsetter has been painting and drawing since childhood. She graduated with a B.S in art education, M.A. and M.F.A, from the UW - Madison. She is a painter: landscape, still life and rosemaling. She also teaches seminars on rosemaling and landscape painting.
Norsetter’s favorite medium is oil painting en plein air. Most of her plein air paintings are from locations within 50 miles of her Verona, Wisconsin home. Local, rural scenes including the Sugar River and its surrounds are favorite painting venues. She has also painted en plein air in the rest of Wisconsin, Minnesota, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Italy and Ireland. Plein air is all about capturing the mood of a day or a specific scene--showing the extraordinary beauty of the ordinary world around us. With her paintings she wants you to feel comfortable in what you see, optimistic about the world we live in and protective of our environment.
