Artist statement
I love the fluidity of clay – it is so forgiving and lucid. It is cool, wet, and messy. There is never waste and I love being able to reuse everything. I care deeply about creating functional work and am inspired by my very practical nature. My work takes on a simplistic and minimalist style.
Every piece is hand made on my pottery wheel or hand built. Pieces are fired to almost 2300, are glazed with lead-free glaze and are safe for an oven, dishwasher, or microwave.
Biography
Amy Hafemann has been doing pottery on and off for 16 years. She was introduced to the medium while attending UW-Whitewater and discovered a true love for it. After graduating with a BFA and moving on to Graphic Design, she continued doing pottery at various classrooms and community studios in and around Madison. She now lives and works in her home studio in Saukville, doing pottery by night and graphic design by day.
Creating functional pieces in brightly colored glazes, her work lends a refreshing approach from the more traditional earth colors. “I love the fluidity of clay – it is so forgiving and lucid. It is cool, wet, and messy. There is never waste and I love being able to reuse everything.”
Amy spends most of the winter creating and firing and sells her work in the summer and fall at various art festivals in Cedarburg, West Bend, Menomonee Falls, and Waukesha.
