Artist statement
When asked what I like to paint, I quickly move the conversation to WHY I choose a subject. It's about the light and how it affects something or someone. If it moves me, I will probably try to paint it.
Biography
Originally from Gilman, Wisconsin, I was a graphic designer all of my working life. After retiring, I attended the Kewaunee Academy of Fine Art from 2007 to 2011 where I began the never-ending journey learning to be an oil painter. I currently live just north of Tomahawk, WI on peaceful Clear Lake with my life partner and muse, Mary K. LaHaie. I hold a BA in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire.
I’ve had the priviledge of working with many established artists including John MacDonald, Craig Blietz, Mark Hanson, Frank LaLumia, Mary Pettis, Ned Mueller, Ken DeWaard, Bonnita Budsyz, Lori Beringer, Bonnie Paruch, Mark Zelten and Mike Capser.
I’m influenced by the work of John Singer Sargent, Andres Zorn, Joaquín Sorrola, George Inness, J. M. W. Turner, Sergei Bongart and Leonardo Da Vinci.
My art has been shown at many Wisconsin venues including the 2013, 2015 and 2017 Birds in Art exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, WI and the 2015 Oil Painters of America (OPA) National Exhibition held in St. Augustine, FL. I am represented by Fine Line Designs Gallery in Ephraim, WI.
