Artist statement
I am interested in what lies behind/beyond the physical world--the essence of life and what drives people to create. Through my work I am trying to discover this for myself and hope to inspire others. I grapple with these questions: What is a soul--can it be represented? The physical world is so transitory, what is the world of the eternal, the spirit? I am seeking a way in which the non-physical world can be represented in a physical way. There must be so much more to the universe than the time/space we inhabit; I hope to inspire others to seek questions and answers.
Biography
I have made art, in one form or another, all of my life. I am currently working as a costume designer for the theater, but am rediscovering my need to work as a fine artist.
I have been the resident costume designer at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin, for the past 10 years. I have also designed costumes for the Milwaukee Rep and Madison Rep, and have been involved with various artistic projects around the state.
