Artist statement
White noise. I seek to make work which exists as white noise. It is not about going unnoticed, but instead about the power of a piece existing in subtle vibrations and nuances. The work upon first and distant encounter gets your attention with its mass or its color or its subject. The evidence of its truth, however, is found only in the approach. It is a one-window warehouse, heavy, worn by time and experience sitting at the end of a city street. Upon approaching it, you hear a hum, constant and curious. Something has happened here. Something is happening here. You place your hand on its walls only to find that the whole building is vibrating, is breathing, is alive. Suddenly the sound it makes is deafening. My work gives itself gradually. When approached, however, it seeks not to show you the experiences of one life lived thus far but instead to make manifest the effects of those experiences through the universal language of human emotion.
