Artist statement
Art can be defined in many ways and have an infinite number of meanings, and those meanings can be obvious or veiled. Regardless of clarity, the important idea is that the art is the artist's language, and that particular language is unique to the artist. In many cases the artist's language transcends the written or spoken word. In my sculpture, I am constantly exploring this idea in relation to the intent of the message. The message of a piece or series of works may be obviously stated or more obscure to draw the viewer in. I constantly re-evaluate the message I am trying to convey and if it is appropriate to state it clearly or make the viewer look a little harder or obscure the message completely.
