Artist statement
I have been a full-time artist for 25 years. I work in a variety of styles and media, from landscape, abstract and portrait painting to folk-art style kinetic, interactive wooden art toys. I am currently concentrating on plein air landscape painting in Wisconsin. In my work I strive to strongly express a sense of place, a sense of color and a sense of humor.
Biography
B.A., Philosophy and Biology, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 1976. M.A. Philosophy, Univerity of Washington, Seattle, 1980.
I turned to painting in my early thirties and have been a full-time artist ever since. One might say that I am self-taught, although since I have been visiting art museums all my life and have spent the last 20 years in the company of working artists, that expression hardly seems appropriate. I have had solo shows in Eau Claire, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle and San Diego, plus many group shows from Atlanta to Las Vegas.
