Artist statement
My oil paintings are done with multiple layers of a mixture of raw pigments, tube pigments, mixed with linseed oil and turpentine. These are finished off sometimes with a combination of washes and tints, but always a glossy varnish. These multiple layers create a luminous interplay of colors, forms and textures, into a complex emotional and visual experience. The high contrast of light and dark areas shifts your focus and emotions into the significant areas of the painting.
I am a spiritual being existing in a physical body; that is why my paintings are drawn from inspiration from both worlds. As an artist, it is important to me to tap into the creative, spiritual subconsciousness to develop my impressions and my emotions on how to portray the hidden images and hidden meanings I have understood and experienced. As a spiritual being, the spiritual paintings that I paint, come from the spiritual world through me in both written and visual formats.
My style of impressionist painting comes from the inspiration of the places I've been, and shows how I've connected to, experienced and emotionally portrayed those places.
In the physical world I am an emotional being, that is why I love the inspiration that comes from the places and people that I paint. As a painter of emotions, the desire to paint is deep within my being. My belief and imagination manifests the reality of my paintings.
