Artist statement
My latest series of mixed media self-portraits focuses intensely on the subjects of femininity, self-conflict, stereotype and strength. I use the image of my own portrait to study and understand the psychological effects of society's pressures on women. Each painting analyzes a specific theme such as fear, women's rights, a mythological character, or a personal experience.
Painting is at once a means of expressing something that I feel strongly about in everyday life, and a means of understanding what I didn't even know was there. It is in these surprise revelations that I find excitement and creative reward.
