Artist statement
I paint rural landscapes. My subjects have a common outdoor theme, and I use lots of color. If one looks at nature, they will see that the sky is not always blue, grass green or the earth brown, but many different hues of pink, mauves, ochres and green. I am influenced by Pissaro, Monet and Van Gogh.
Biography
I didn't start to paint until I retired from a 33-year career with the Appleton Police Department and retired to rural western Wisconsin. I attended workshops by well-known watercolorists and started painting in that medium. The last 20 years, I have been mentored by Mark Horton, a local and very talented oil painter and have switched to oils. Under Mark's guidance, I have grown as an artist.
