Artist statement
The timeless beauty of Louis Comfort Tiffany's life work in stained glass inspires my digital works on paper in "Art a la Tiffany." Original designs are hand-drawn and painted before scanning for additional graphic effects. With the computer as a new tool in my paintbox, I look to a botanical theme for the challenge of working in a serial format. With a humble nod to Tiffany's vast vision, it is my hope to share that similar excitement for color and form.
Throughout my studies in art and travels throughout Italy, my life has long been influenced by Tiffany, who was an accomplished painter before his fame in stained glass. I take comfort (!) in knowing his sense of design was rooted in traditional art education. I also find it beneficial to have been trained as a painter. New tools can now take me further.
Biography
After relocating to Wausau, Wis., just over two years ago, I find myself happily immersed in a diverse local art scene. I grew up in Chicago, and my paintings have been shown in galleries in that metropolitan area. After studying at the Art Institute of Chicago and earning my B.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin, I progressed to showing and selling my work in exhibits throughout the Midwest, earning awards along the way.
Currently, I am working on a botanical series. I want to paint a garden for the viewer.
