Artist statement
My work with glass combines many techniques--kilnworking, off-hand
furnace work and blowing, flameworking and cold work. The desire to follow my vision wherever it goes, without being stopped by conventional boundaries, allows me to use my full range of skills, and I am able to create fresh, painterly effects that are uncommon in the field of glass art.
Inspired by the relationship between humankind and our environment and by the complexity of our own inner landscapes, I seek to reflect, inspire and uplift through my abstract images.
Biography
I earned a B.A. in studio art from Michigan State University in 1982 and took my first glassblowing class soon after that. About fifteen years later, glass re-emerged as a strong interest in my life and work, gradually becoming my favorite medium.
I have been developing a body of work that combines glassblowing, kilnwork and lampwork. I strive to innovate in the field of glass art, and I share my knowledge by regularly teaching glass fusing, incorporating combined glassworking techniques whenever possible.
My work has been exhibited in juried regional and national shows and galleries.
