Artist statement
I began at a young age expressing myself creatively through art. Most would say it started on my parents walls at the age of two; however, I prefer to think that it started in junior high. I studied art in high school and art education in college. I have always been attracted to forms of art that have allowed creative self-expression. I like to celebrate the artful side of life and help others find that inner artist that lives inside all of us.
Through the years there has been an underlying passion that I wanted to satisfy. That need always tugged at me when I was asked, "what is your specialty, what do you enjoy doing the most?" My answer was always very generic: "I studied everything in college so I could be a well-rounded art instructor to help my students achieve their personal best." In the past years, I have made a personal commitment to myself to find what I truly enjoy doing, not just instructing the creative process.
In all the things that I do, the basic component is curiosity and a quest for creative expression. The source of my inspiration has evolved from my imagination and what I would like displayed in my own home. I have always been drawn to color and all facets of design. All of my art pieces have originated from an idea I had to redecorate my own home. I am passionate about creating original artwork that anyone can use to decorate.
