Artist statement
I suppose the particular style I have developed is a sort of "world-imaging," in that it is a composite of my journey. I left art school intent upon European naturalism, and left it upon traveling to Europe. I became gothic. South America added color, and the study of Chinese brush completed this particular stew. It is still simmering.
Biography
I learned my craft at the Art Students League in New York City, which I attended from 1980-83. Also, at that time I was able to spend many hours at the old MOMA and the Metropolitan. I cannot measure the extent these institutions have formed me. I lived in New York City for twenty years. I would call them my formative time if I could imagine that process completed.
Another great influence has been the seven years I worked at La Mama, etc., an experimental theater in the East Village of Manhattan. I was able to enter an artistic community and had the privilege of coming to know, in small part, many wonderful people.
