Artist statement
I design and produce one-of-a-kind sculptures and sculpted bowls from beautiful burled woods and dendritic soapstone. Stylized representations of birds and mammals form the backbone of my work.
Biography
Gene Reineking earned a B.A. in anthropology in 1972. He worked as a studio potter in stoneware and porcelain for twenty years, then switched mediums from clay to wood in 1992. His lathe-turned vessels and wooden boxes gave way to sculpture about six years ago. Reineking's work is exhibited in art fairs throughout the West and Midwest and in several galleries.
