Artist statement
botanical subjects have facinated me since my earliest memory. They first appeared in my work in the form of portraiture, often in single bloom, captured in its momentary gesture. As the drawing progresses, colors fade into the surface of the paper, become mere suggestions of the plant which was there. In its place, lines, marks, forms and patterns remain truthful to its origin, yet gain integrity and subtlety on its own merit. Plants also emerge as symbolisms of my work, both in words and in imagery. Thus on a peaceful morning like this, dreams of my childhood wake me once more from my dreams--
Fog rises on the jasmine field, a milky white stirred by distant fog horns. whiteness of the flowers float above morning mist like night stars, fragrant like no other...
