Artist statement
Creating abstract paintings not only gives me a creative outlet to experiment with color, shape and line; it also allows me to evoke a viewer's experience and imagination. As humans, we share common experiences that remind us of a specific time, place, feeling or emotion. My goal as an artist is to allow these experiences to resurface, and to make that immediate response from the viewer to the artwork.
The concept of 'location' fascinates me, as it is something we all go through: whether it is a new career move, continuing education, falling in love or seeing old friends. My current work is a reflection of time and place. 'Identity' (2005) was the beginning of this current body of work. I relocated to a new city, which I worked in for the past four years, but knew nothing about it. My paintings are a documentation of various locations with specific moments in time.
