Artist statement
I begin painting without any planning or direction. Miles, Coltrane and other jazz greats ignite my vision. I use brushes and rags to push and guide the acrylic paint around the canvas. The music makes me work loose and free, sometimes resulting in something totally unexpected. Once the initial background is started, I will study the piece off and on. Towards the end of the painting, crisp, clean lines are strategically placed. These final strokes are very important and can make or break the piece.
Through the years. my art has changed greatly. I am constantly developing and refining my own individual style. Sharing my paintings with complete strangers, I am moved when they are as excited about my work as I am. This is what keeps the creative process going.
