Artist statement
I buy raw fleece directly from local farmers, use fleece from rare or endangered breeds as much as possible, and teach spinning, knitting or felting to all who are interested in learning.
Biography
A realistic illustrator while in Madison from 1990-95, Laurie Boyer began working exclusively with fiber after learning to spin on a drop spindle. International awards include New Zealand's Majacraft Handspun Innovation Supreme Award 2003 and 2005. Boyer's handspun/knit works have travelled nationally with Spin-Off's Save the Sheep Exhibit. In fall 2005, "Lightning Scarf" was included in New York's Kiana Malekzadeh Gallery juried knitting exhibit. Articles have appeard in Spin-Off, American Livestock Breeds Conservancy Newsletter and Canada's Handspinner.com.
