Artist statement
I paint what I cannot photograph. Every work begins with doodles that radiate from the center of my support, unpremeditated, always different progressions of color exchanges and proportions. I study each new oil pastel on paper or oil on canvas from all four sides, looking for my latest subject. If not at first, new layers of different colors suddenly, thrillingly reveal the essence of my latest creation. Only then does the challenge begin.
Biography
Patricia Obletz studied fashion illustration at Parsons School of Design and life drawing and painting at the National Fine Art Academy at Art Students League. Her work is in public and private collections and also in juried exhibitions in galleries and museums in Canada, Western New York, New York City and Madison, Milwaukee, Wausau and West Bend in Wisconsin.
