Artist statement
My works are a combination of traditional and not-so-traditional still life watercolor paintings. I tend to follow the tradition of Dutch and Flemish still-life painters of the 17th century, but I also find myself following in the footsteps of Aaron Bohrod's realism and his toy paintings. With my paintings, I am attempting to show the beauty and wonder of objects that I find of interest. There is no deep psychological meaning to my works... just beauty and/or whimsy.
Biography
My works can be found in corporate and private collections throughout the United States, Canada, Russia, Japan, Western Europe and South America. I am represented in corporate collections at Luther-Midelfort Mayo Health System, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance and others. I have had solo and group exhibits mainly in the Midwest, including a solo exhibit at the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters, Madison, Wis.,1989; Bergstrom-Mahler Museum, Neenah, Wis.; 1995 and the Minnetonka Center for the Arts, Minnetonka, Minn., 2001.
In 1995 and 1997, I was invited by Mary Ann Beckwith (1995) and Bette Lou Schlemm (1997) to have my works represented in books about watercolor painting techniques, published by Rockport Publishers. My images have also appeared in The Dane County Cultural Affairs yearly calendar.
I am also the recipient of the 1994 Tributary Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Artistic Discipline bestowed by The Eau Claire Regional Arts Council.
