Artist statement
Photography and the beauty of nature have always intrigued me. My goal as an outdoor photographer is to preserve pieces of nature's beauty by capturing high-quality images of land and waterscapes, and the flora and fauna found in them.
To ensure high-quality images, I utilize natural light quality when it is at its best. I select the specific lens focal length and aperture settings that will provide the best presentation of my subject. I choose subjects that are in their prime in terms of appearance and color. And I work hard to make my images compositionally "eyecatching."
Biography
Herrick is a northern Wisconsin native and recently retired Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources specialist. He established Herrick Outdoor Photography in 1994, specializing in high-quality images of nature and the outdoor world. It includes image inventory from several states but with a primary focus on land and waterscapes, wildlife and wildflower images of Wisconsin's Northwoods. Publication credits include Wisconsin Trails magazine, Trails Media Wall Calendar, Lake Superior Magazine Wall Calendar, Minnesota Weatherguide Wall and Engagement calendars, Silent Sports magazine, National Rural Water Association, Wisconsin Rural Water Association, Water Well Journal, Wisconsin Dept. of Tourism, Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources, UW-Extension, and numerous state and regional tourism publications.
