The first string quartet to serve as artists-in-residence at a major American university is the Pro Arte Quartet, which came to the UW-Madison in the 1950s, an appointment that continues to this day. Originally founded in 1911-12 by students at the Brussels Conservatory, the Pro Arte quartet was celebrating its centennial anniversary when University Place Presents first broadcast this interview and performance in May 2011.
