Diane Ravitch's 2010 book, The Death and Life of the Great American School System, has been called a "must read" for education policymakers at all levels of government. A research professor of education at New York University and senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, Ravitch offers informed analyses of the current state of American education--what's broken and what are the best ways to fix it.
Her 2011 talk was part of a special three-part Academy Evenings series called "Education is Fundamental," featuring historians, researchers and administrators in the field of education. The Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters presented this Academy Evenings event on March 8, 2011, in partnership with the UW-Madison School of Education and the Wisconsin Center on Education Research, with support from the Wisconsin Education Association Council and UW-Madison Lectures Committee.
